COURSE CURRICULUM

In Year 1, students are introduced to foundational topics in media studies and film production. Global Screens (20 credits) explores the impact of media industries on national identity, discussing globalisation, resistance, and key historical events. Introduction to Media Studies (20 credits) delves into media theory, teaching students how to analyse and critically engage with mass media. Screen Debates (20 credits) enhances analytical skills for film and screen media analysis, using interdisciplinary approaches to examine narrative elements such as genre, realism, and representation. Screen Research (20 credits) focuses on developing research skills specific to film and TV, helping students master academic writing, referencing, and analysis of film production. Understanding Film Production (20 credits) introduces key filmmaking concepts, including camera work, editing, and sound, while fostering collaboration on creative projects. Finally, Writing for the Film and TV Industries (20 credits) builds screenwriting and pitching skills, preparing students for industry-standard storytelling.In Year 2, students deepen their understanding of media's power and influence. Propaganda (20 credits) examines how media can shape societal ideology through historical and contemporary examples of propaganda. Transmedia Narratives and Strategies (20 credits) explores storytelling across multiple platforms, teaching students how to create immersive and interactive narratives. Both modules challenge students to think critically about media and storytelling in today’s digital landscape.In Year 3, students can choose an optional module, allowing them to further specialize in areas that align with their career goals and interests.
