In the first year of the journalism program, you will gain essential skills and knowledge through a combination of foundational modules. Academic Skills and Career Planning helps you develop writing and study techniques, while also preparing you for the challenges of your degree and future career. Journalism in Context introduces you to the history and role of journalism in society, exploring critical topics such as regulation and digital disruption. In Media Law and Regulation, you will learn about the legal aspects of journalism, including reporting limits and ethical guidelines, equipping you with the knowledge to navigate the media landscape responsibly. The Reporting module provides practical experience in news reporting for both print and digital media, where you will learn to write compelling stories, create attention-grabbing headlines, and work under deadlines.Additionally, creative modules like Telling Tales and True Stories encourage you to explore your storytelling abilities, drawing inspiration from mythology, oral traditions, and personal experiences. These modules help you refine your creative writing style while developing techniques for authentic self-expression. By the end of the first year, you'll have built a strong foundation in both journalistic and creative writing, ready to tackle more advanced topics in the following years.In the second year, the focus shifts to research-driven journalism. The Feature Writing and Media Research module builds your ability to write in-depth articles while honing your research and editorial skills. By the end of the year, you'll be prepared to produce engaging content for diverse audiences, ready to take on the challenges of professional journalism.
