COURSE CURRICULUM

In the first year of this program, students will gain a foundational understanding of politics, international relations, and development through a diverse range of modules. "Analysing Politics: Britain and Beyond" introduces key political concepts, exploring how political demands are articulated and how governance responds to them. This module encourages students to critically analyze debates in British politics and beyond. The "Critical Thinking and Professional Identity" module equips students with essential academic skills like writing, research, public speaking, and networking, while fostering an awareness of conceptual frameworks and methodologies. The "Global Development" module dives into international development, examining the roles of various organizations and placing development within the broader context of global capitalism. In "Key Themes in International Relations," students will be introduced to IR, exploring critical issues such as war, peace, sovereignty, and climate change, while building a deep understanding of the historical and contemporary dimensions of world politics. The "Political Thought" module enables students to engage with the ideas of historical and contemporary thinkers, exploring themes such as justice, liberty, and the relationship between the individual and the state. In the second year, students will sharpen their research skills with the "Bending the Truth A Little? Researching Politics and International Relations" module. Here, they will navigate conflicting political arguments, evaluate the credibility of sources, and develop coherent arguments on contemporary political issues. The final year module, "Global Capitalism: Past, Present and Future," offers an in-depth examination of capitalism, exploring its evolution, challenges, and future trajectories, especially in relation to global issues such as economic crises and environmental sustainability. This well-rounded curriculum equips students with critical thinking, research, and analytical skills necessary for navigating global political and economic systems.
