This creative writing program spans three years, offering a comprehensive blend of hands-on experience, theoretical knowledge, and practical skill-building to prepare students for various writing careers. In Year 1, students are introduced to essential skills through modules like Professional Writing, which focuses on blogging, pitching, and editing, and Telling Tales, which dives into storytelling using classic myths and modern twists. The Short Story: Murder, Madness, and Experimentation module develops skills in narrative techniques, while Tips, Tricks, Techniques enhances writing through analysis of renowned authors. True Stories explores creative nonfiction, encouraging personal expression through memoirs, and Writing for the Film and TV Industries equips students with screenwriting skills.Year 2 builds on this foundation with modules like Finding Form - Fiction, where students write short stories across various genres and age groups, and Finding Form - Nonfiction, which develops journalism skills, including pitching and ethical considerations. The Creative Writing and Critical Thinking module integrates literary classics and philosophy, enriching students' writing through critical analysis. In Year 3, students undertake a Creative Writing Dissertation, allowing them to explore a subject of their choice in depth, culminating in an original work accompanied by research. Throughout the program, students refine their voice, craft, and industry knowledge, preparing them for successful careers in writing, publishing, and media.
