COURSE CURRICULUM

The course in Childhood and Youth Studies focuses on understanding child and youth development and providing the skills needed for a career in social pedagogy, early childhood, and youth studies. In Year 1, modules like Becoming a Researcher introduce research ethics and methodologies, while Child and Youth Development covers key theories of growth in children and adolescents. Educational Contexts explores the development of education and its different types, and Rights and Responsibilities looks at social issues and how to address them. The Understanding Childhoods module delves into safeguarding, outdoor learning, and anti-discriminatory practices, along with developing an ePortfolio for academic and professional growth.Year 2 includes Global Childhoods, which examines how childhoods differ worldwide and the challenges children face, and Professional Practice with Children and Young People, where students complete a placement to develop practical skills in educational and community settings. Research with Children and Young People teaches ethical research methods, preparing students for their dissertation, while Strategies for Social Change focuses on historical and current strategies for social change and activism.In Year 3, Behaviour Matters explores positive behaviour management techniques for children with challenging behaviours, while Professional Themes in Supporting Young People's Relationships and Interactions teaches how to support vulnerable youth through professional case studies and advanced social work. These modules aim to equip students with the knowledge and experience necessary for a career in supporting children and young people in various educational and social contexts.
