COURSE CURRICULUM

In the first year of the Theatre program, students focus on building foundational skills in performance through a series of core modules. These include Making Theatre (20 credits), where students learn the process of creating and staging performances, and Voice and the Actor (20 credits), which explores vocal techniques essential for performance. Movement for Performance (20 credits) introduces students to the physical aspects of acting, while the Devised Project (20 credits) encourages collaborative creation of original works. Performance and Society (20 credits) examines the role of theatre within cultural and societal contexts, and Performance Criticism and Analysis (20 credits) develops the ability to critically engage with and analyze performances. In the second year, students dive deeper into performance theory with modules like Critical Contexts (20 credits) and Performance Histories (20 credits). Optional modules such as Advanced Scene Study (20 credits) and Screen Acting and Production (20 credits) allow students to specialize in specific areas of interest. The third year focuses on applied and alternative theatre, with modules like Applied Theatre for Young Audiences (20 credits) and Alternative Theatres (20 credits), offering students the opportunity to work with different formats and audiences. The Major Academic Project (20 credits) challenges students to apply their learning in an independent research or creative project, while additional optional modules such as Musical Theatre: Special Topic (20 credits) allow for further exploration of specific performance genres and styles.
