The University of Portsmouth (UoP) is a public university in Portsmouth, England. Governed by Chancellor Karen Blackett and Vice-Chancellor Professor Graham Galbraith, UoP comprises five faculties: Business and Law, Creative and Cultural Industries, Humanities and Social Sciences, Science and Health, and Technology. Founded in 1870 as the Portsmouth and Gosport School of Science and Art, it evolved into Portsmouth Municipal College in 1908, later becoming Portsmouth Polytechnic in 1969. It gained university status in 1992.
