COURSE CURRICULUM

The PGCE Primary School Led program integrates both theoretical and practical learning to prepare students for a career in primary education. Core modules include Teachers and Education, Curriculum Concepts and Contexts, and Pupils, Inclusion and Diversity, providing students with a strong foundation in teaching theory, curriculum design, and strategies to support diverse learners. A key component of the program is the school-based professional placement, where students are guided and supported by experienced teacher mentors. During placement, students become familiar with classroom and school policies, plan and deliver lessons for both small groups and whole classes, and focus on explaining, modelling, and fostering positive learning environments. They gradually progress to whole-class teaching, rehearsing and refining effective behaviour management techniques and assessment strategies. Reflective practice is central to the program, with students continually collecting evidence, evaluating their development, and recording their progress. ITAP sequences are integrated into placement, providing structured guidance on lesson planning and teaching practice. By combining academic study with hands-on experience, this program equips students with the practical skills, professional knowledge, and confidence necessary to become competent and effective primary school teachers, capable of supporting the learning and development of all pupils in diverse classroom settings.
