COURSE CURRICULUM

The PGCE Primary Physical Education program combines theoretical learning with practical experience to prepare students for a career in teaching. The curriculum covers key areas such as curriculum concepts and contexts, children, inclusion and diversity, and teachers and education, providing a strong foundation in educational theory, pedagogy, and inclusive teaching practices. Trainees gain an understanding of how to create supportive learning environments that cater to the diverse needs of pupils, fostering their physical, social, and emotional development. A significant component of the program involves professional school-based placements, during which students are guided by experienced teacher mentors. These placements allow trainees to become familiar with classroom and school policies, plan and deliver lessons to groups and whole classes, and develop essential skills in behaviour management, assessment, and reflective practice. Trainees progressively take on more responsibility, rehearsing and refining their teaching techniques while receiving constructive feedback. The program emphasizes continual reflection, encouraging students to evaluate and record their personal and professional growth, and engage with ITAP sequences to enhance learning outcomes. By integrating academic study with hands-on experience, the program equips graduates with the knowledge, skills, and confidence required to become effective and innovative primary physical education teachers.
