COURSE CURRICULUM

The PGCE Primary 3-7 program at the University of Winchester combines academic study with practical classroom experience to prepare trainees for a successful teaching career. The course includes modules such as Teachers and Education, which explores the role and responsibilities of educators, professional ethics, and the broader educational landscape, helping trainees understand the expectations and challenges of the teaching profession. Curriculum Concepts and Contexts examines the development and delivery of effective curricula, focusing on planning, assessment, and teaching strategies to meet diverse learning needs while aligning with national and local educational standards. The Pupils, Inclusion and Diversity module emphasizes understanding individual differences and promoting inclusive education, equipping trainees to support all children, including those with additional learning needs, and to foster equitable and supportive classroom environments. Central to the program is the Professional Placement, which provides structured, hands-on experience in real classroom settings, allowing trainees to apply theory in practice, develop classroom management skills, and engage with pupils, parents, and colleagues. Through a combination of reflective practice, mentorship, and academic study, trainees are encouraged to critically evaluate their teaching methods, enhance their professional competence, and build the confidence required to become innovative, adaptable, and effective primary school teachers ready to make a meaningful impact on young learners.
