COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Criminal Justice and Investigation program equips students with a comprehensive understanding of the criminal justice system, both nationally and globally, and the skills needed to operate effectively within it. Core modules explore the challenges and opportunities present in criminal justice, examining contemporary issues such as crime prevention, policy responses, and the role of legal and law enforcement institutions. Investigatory practice is a key focus, with students learning the principles, systems, and protocols necessary for conducting professional investigations in a range of contexts. The program emphasizes data-driven approaches, teaching students to collect, analyse, and interpret evidence to inform decision-making and investigative strategies. Trauma-informed practice is also central, ensuring students understand the impact of trauma on victims and offenders and can develop appropriate support, intervention, and rehabilitation strategies. Throughout the course, students engage in applied learning through case studies, simulated investigative exercises, and research projects, allowing them to integrate theoretical knowledge with practical skills. The extended independent study enables in-depth research on a topic of choice, fostering critical thinking, analytical skills, and professional development.
