COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Applied Sport Psychology modules provide a comprehensive framework for developing both theoretical knowledge and applied professional skills relevant to supporting athletes and individuals in sport and exercise environments. Modules such as Philosophy Development and Ethical Practice and Practitioner Competencies and Reflective Practice establish the foundations for working responsibly and effectively within professional boundaries. Psychological Skills and Intervention and Skill Acquisition and Expertise Development explore techniques to enhance performance, learning and skill progression. Leadership and Group Dynamics in Sport examines team functioning, communication and the role of leadership in shaping performance cultures, while Transitions in Sport looks at key points of change across an athlete’s career, such as entry into elite sport or retirement. Mental Health and Wellbeing focuses on supporting athletes’ psychological health, recognising challenges such as stress, pressure and injury. Practitioner Development and Scope of Practice encourages students to reflect on their personal growth and understand the broader career landscape. The Dissertation allows students to conduct independent research on a topic of their choice, contributing to professional knowledge and academic development. Together, these modules prepare students for careers as sport and exercise psychology practitioners by combining academic insight, practical skills and reflective professional training.
