COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Sport Coaching and Physical Education program provides students with a comprehensive understanding of coaching, teaching, and athlete development. In the first year, students develop foundational knowledge in research, employability skills, applied coaching principles, and performance physiology, while gaining practical experience in teaching games and understanding skill acquisition. The second year builds on this foundation, focusing on sport and exercise research, functional movement development through professional placements, team and individual performance analysis, and sport pedagogy for effective coaching and teaching. In the final year, students undertake a dissertation and study athlete development, assessment, and contemporary issues in sport and physical education. Optional modules allow students to tailor their learning, choosing between advanced technologies and innovation in sport, which explores performance analytics and motion tracking, or sport psychology for coaches, which focuses on motivation, mental skills, and team dynamics. Additional options include the psychology of injury, addressing the social, cultural, and psychological challenges of sport-related injuries, or outdoor education, which uses experiential learning to enhance personal development, mental health, and social outcomes. The program combines theoretical study with practical applications, fostering critical thinking, reflective practice, and professional competence, preparing graduates for careers in coaching, teaching, athlete development, performance analysis, and wider roles within sport and education industries.
