COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Software Engineering program provides students with a comprehensive foundation in computing, programming, and system design, preparing them to develop innovative, efficient, and secure software solutions. In the first year, students explore core concepts such as computational thinking, principles of programming, secure systems and infrastructure design, and gain an introduction to their subject. In the second year, the focus shifts to advanced skills including inclusive application development, systems testing, and research and consultancy, with optional modules allowing students to specialise in areas such as web development, cloud infrastructure, system administration, and disruptive business innovation. These options encourage practical engagement with emerging technologies, entrepreneurship, and cloud-based solutions. The final year consolidates learning through modules such as cross-platform development, disruptive open-source development, and a capstone project, which allows students to design, develop, and implement complex software systems. Additional optional modules such as developing for the cloud and DevOps for organisations build expertise in scalable, secure, and maintainable cloud applications, containerisation, scripting, and automated system administration. Throughout the course, students gain practical experience and technical proficiency, enabling them to tackle real-world software engineering challenges, contribute effectively to development projects, and innovate in a rapidly evolving technology landscape, equipping them for careers across a range of industries.
