COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Social Work program provides students with a comprehensive foundation in both the theory and practice of social work, preparing them for professional registration and employment. In the first year, students develop essential research skills, learn how to use themselves effectively in professional interactions, and gain an understanding of sociological perspectives, law, ethics, and social policy, which together form the basis for safe and informed practice. In the second year, students undertake their first practice placement, allowing them to apply theoretical knowledge in real-world settings while further developing professional skills. This year also focuses on social work methods and interventions, the legal and professional knowledge base of social work, and psychological perspectives of the life course, ensuring a holistic understanding of the factors that affect individuals and communities. The third year builds on this experience through an extended final practice placement, where students consolidate their skills in risk assessment, safeguarding, and contemporary social work practice. Alongside this, students complete an independent study project, allowing them to explore contemporary issues in practice in depth. Throughout the program, students are supported in developing the knowledge, ethical awareness, reflective practice, and practical skills required to become competent, compassionate, and professional social workers ready to make a meaningful impact in society.
