COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Psychology with Criminology degree combines the study of psychological principles with criminological perspectives to explore the causes, consequences, and management of criminal behaviour. In the first year, students gain a foundational understanding of psychological perspectives, professional and research skills, and an introduction to crime and criminal justice, equipping them with the theoretical knowledge and practical competencies needed for further study. The second year builds on this foundation, focusing on topics such as violence and society, cognition, biology, individual differences, and both quantitative and qualitative research methods, while also developing applied skills for professional research and practice. This combination ensures students can analyse and interpret human behaviour in a criminological context. In the final year, students undertake a substantial research project, enhancing their ability to conduct independent study and develop evidence-based conclusions, while also exploring developmental and social psychology. Optional modules in psychology and criminology allow students to tailor their learning to their interests and career goals. Throughout the course, students are encouraged to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world contexts, preparing them for careers in criminal justice, forensic psychology, law enforcement, probation, youth work, research, and other areas where an understanding of human behaviour and crime is essential.
