COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Professional Policing degree provides a comprehensive understanding of modern policing, combining academic study with practical skills to prepare students for careers in law enforcement. In the first year, students develop foundational knowledge through modules such as Introduction to Police Values and Attributes, Introduction to Contemporary Policing, Introduction to Vulnerability, Risk and Public Protection, and Police Investigations. These modules establish an understanding of the ethical standards, core principles, and investigative techniques essential to effective policing. In the second year, students build on this foundation with Contemporary Policing Practice, Advanced Vulnerability, Risk and Public Protection, Information and Intelligence in Evidence-Based Policing, and Introduction to Research Methods. This stage emphasizes practical application, analytical skills, and understanding how evidence and intelligence inform policing strategies. In the final year, the focus shifts to higher-level analysis and professional development through modules including Extended Independent Study, Understanding the Police Constable Role: Ethics and Policy, Advanced Contemporary Policing, and Problem Solving in Policing. These modules encourage critical thinking, ethical decision-making, and complex problem-solving, reflecting real-world challenges faced by police officers. By the end of the course, students are equipped with a deep knowledge of policing theory, practical investigative skills, and professional competence, preparing them to enter the policing profession confidently and effectively contribute to public safety and justice.
