COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Geography program provides a comprehensive study of both natural and human processes that shape the planet, from glaciers and rivers to urban megacities. In the first year, students explore global risks, the relationship between people and places, physical geography, and essential geographical skills, building a strong foundation for understanding environmental and social systems. In the second year, the focus shifts to research methods, fieldwork planning, and environmental geography, with optional modules such as climate and landscape change or the study of race, ethnicity, and migration, allowing students to examine pressing environmental and social issues from multiple perspectives. The third year emphasises independent research through a dissertation and covers topics such as conservation and the natural world. Optional modules provide opportunities to specialise in areas including resource competition in the Global South, dryland environments, managing environmental hazards, critical geopolitics, geographies of crime, and environmental hydrology. Fieldwork, case studies, and practical projects are integrated throughout the course, equipping students with both theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience. Graduates gain the analytical, research, and problem-solving skills required to address global environmental and societal challenges and are prepared for careers in environmental consultancy, urban planning, conservation, research, policy development, and related fields where a deep understanding of human-environment interactions is essential.
