COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Forensic Investigation program provides a comprehensive, hands-on education in the scientific and investigative principles underlying forensic practice. In Year 1, students develop foundational skills through modules such as Skills for Forensic Practitioners, Fundamentals of Forensic Investigation, Introduction to Forensic Evidence, and Historical and Contemporary Perspectives, learning the essential techniques and theoretical frameworks that inform modern forensic work. Year 2 builds on this knowledge with modules including Case Review and Investigation, Evidence-Based Approaches in Forensics, and Crime Scene Investigation, while offering optional modules such as Forensic Medicine, Digital Forensic Evidence, Forensic Ecology, or Missing Persons, allowing students to explore specialised areas and apply investigative methods in real-world contexts. In Year 3, students undertake an Independent Research Project and advance their expertise through Crime Scene Management and Evidence Analysis and Interpretation, alongside optional modules including Anatomy and Anthropology, Fakes, Forgeries and Fraud, Forensic Archaeology, or Ballistics, Fire and Explosives, providing opportunities for focused study in high-demand forensic fields. Throughout the program, students develop practical, analytical, and problem-solving skills, gaining experience in handling, interpreting, and presenting evidence while considering legal, ethical, and procedural standards. Graduates are well-equipped for careers in forensic laboratories, law enforcement, criminal justice agencies, and related scientific and investigative fields, or for further postgraduate study, combining technical expertise with critical thinking and applied investigative experience.
