COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Popular Music: Production and Performance program provides a comprehensive and practical education in contemporary music, combining performance, production, and industry knowledge. In the first year, students focus on developing foundational skills in studio recording, performance techniques, guerrilla music production, and songwriting for commercial contexts, gaining essential technical and creative experience. The second year builds on this foundation with advanced performance techniques, artist development, production projects, and a music industry project, while also offering optional modules such as music video production and live performance composition, which explore the integration of visuals, technology, and live performance strategies. These modules encourage students to experiment with creative concepts, understand modern performance practices, and engage with the professional music environment. In the final year, students consolidate their learning through a major project, both in development and production, alongside a professional performance project and the creation of a music industry portfolio. These components allow students to showcase their artistic identity, technical proficiency, and understanding of industry standards. Throughout the program, students are encouraged to collaborate, innovate, and develop a professional mindset, equipping them with the skills, experience, and confidence needed to pursue careers as performing artists, producers, or creative professionals in the dynamic world of popular music.
