COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Philosophy, Religion and Ethics program offers a comprehensive exploration of human thought, spirituality, and moral reasoning. In the first year, students engage with foundational philosophical ideas from ancient to early modern times, study the relationship between Christ and philosophical traditions, examine concepts of the good life, and explore living religions through both theory and practice. The second year deepens understanding with modules on philosophy of mind, psychology and emotion, global religions, and environmental and research-focused philosophy, while optional modules allow investigation into specialized topics such as angels and demons, ritual practices, gender and sexuality, and the works of Nietzsche. In the third year, students undertake a dissertation alongside studies in alternative spiritualities and may choose from optional modules including philosophy of religion, philosophy of literature and art, contemporary theology, philosophy and psychoanalysis, mapping mortality, and work placements, which link academic study to practical experience. Across all years, the course emphasizes critical thinking, analysis, and independent inquiry, encouraging students to question assumptions, engage with diverse perspectives, and connect philosophical and ethical concepts to contemporary issues. Graduates develop transferable skills in reasoning, research, communication, and ethical evaluation, equipping them for careers in education, public service, community work, or further academic study while fostering a deep understanding of the complexities of belief, morality, and human experience.
