COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Musical Theatre program is designed to develop students’ performance skills while providing a deep understanding of the artistic, historical, and professional contexts of musical theatre. In the first year, students build foundational skills in voice, acting, and dance, alongside exploring the histories and industry aspects of musical theatre, culminating in a performance project that integrates these elements. The second year focuses on advancing technical abilities and interpretive skills, with modules in advanced acting, voice development, choreographic approaches, and the study of musical theatre, combined with practical experience through a swing project and participation in a new musical theatre production. In the final year, students engage in intensive, real-world performance projects, including a theatre company project and preparation for and performance in a full-scale musical theatre production, which allows them to apply their skills in a professional setting. Optional modules such as technique and repertoire enable students to further refine their acting, voice, and dance skills while creating material for online showreels and live auditions, enhancing employability. Additionally, the dissertation module offers an opportunity to conduct in-depth independent research, producing a substantial written project. Overall, the program balances creative, practical, and academic development, equipping graduates with the skills, knowledge, and professional readiness to pursue careers in performance, production, or related areas of musical theatre.
