COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Law with Criminology degree offers a comprehensive exploration of law and criminology, combining theoretical knowledge with practical skills. In the first year, students study the English legal system, public and European Union law, the law of torts, and criminological identities, building a solid foundation in both legal principles and the social context of crime. The second year develops this knowledge through modules on criminal law, contract law, and the societal impacts of violence, alongside optional modules such as equity and trusts, medical law, and immigration law, allowing students to tailor their learning to specific interests. The final year focuses on advanced topics including international criminal law and law of evidence, while students undertake an independent law project or work placement to gain hands-on experience. Optional modules cover contemporary issues in criminology, such as identity, equality, addiction, criminal bodies, sport and crime, land law, and family and child law, providing a broad understanding of the legal and social dimensions of crime. Throughout the course, students develop practical legal skills such as negotiation, client interviewing, and advocacy, while critically engaging with the relationship between law, crime, and society. This integrated approach prepares graduates for careers in law, criminal justice, policing, probation, youth work, and other professional fields, as well as further academic study.
