COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Film Production program offers an immersive, hands-on education in filmmaking, equipping students with both creative and professional skills necessary for a career in the film industry. In Year 1, students gain foundational experience through modules such as Professional Industry Development, Producing Drama, Filmmaking Skills, and Documentary Portraiture, learning essential technical and creative competencies. Year 2 deepens practical and theoretical knowledge with modules including Telling Real Stories, Directing and Cinematography, and Film Sound and Editing, alongside optional modules in Producing Practices, Screenwriting: Adaptations, VFX Production, or Digital Distribution, enabling students to specialise in areas such as production management, adaptation, post-production, and online marketing. In Year 3, students focus on advanced professional skills through Specialist Film Craft and Employment and The Evolution and Future of Film, complemented by optional modules including Broadcast TV Production, Large Scale Production, Corporate Film, Creative Industry Collaboration, International Collaboration, and Festivals. These options provide opportunities for large-scale collaborative projects, client-based commissions, cross-cultural production experiences, and engagement with film festivals, reflecting industry standards. Throughout the program, students build a substantial portfolio of completed films, develop teamwork, problem-solving, and leadership skills, and gain exposure to industry networks. Graduates are well-prepared for careers across film, television, digital media production, festival management, and other creative industries, or for further postgraduate study.
