COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Film and Media Studies program offers students a thorough understanding of film, media, and digital culture, combining theoretical study with practical skills and industry engagement. In Year 1, students gain foundational knowledge through modules such as Rise of the New Media, Digital Creative Skills, Introduction to Film, and Film Form, Narrative and History, developing analytical, creative, and technical competencies. Year 2 expands this foundation with modules including Social Media, Branding and Storytelling, Exploring Media Research, and Professional Journeys, alongside optional modules such as Film Genres or British and European Cinema, enabling students to specialise in key areas of film and media study. Year 3 allows students to pursue advanced study through an Extended Independent Study and Politics, Media and the Climate Crisis, while optional modules provide opportunities to explore National and Global Cinemas, Stardom and Desire, Documentary and Photojournalism, Video Game Worlds, Community Media, or Festivals. These options allow students to engage with diverse media forms, cultural contexts, production practices, and social impact, including digital, interactive, and community-based media. Throughout the program, students develop critical thinking, research, and creative problem-solving skills, while gaining practical experience in media production, analysis, and engagement. Graduates are prepared for careers in film and media industries, journalism, cultural management, digital media, and related creative fields, or for further postgraduate study.
