COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Early Years Education program offers a structured pathway from foundational knowledge to advanced professional practice. In Year 1, students explore the historical and political context of education, perspectives on special and inclusive education, early childhood development, and the foundations of early years practice through modules such as Education: Political and Historical Perspectives, Introducing Perspectives on Special and Inclusive Education, Early Childhood Education, Development and Care, and Education and the Foundations of Early Years Practice. Year 2 focuses on applying theory to practice, progressing understanding of policy, provision and pedagogy through modules including Developing Early Years Practice, Early Childhood: Theory, Policy and Provision, Play Pedagogies and Enabling Environments, and Inclusions and Exclusions: Theory, Policy and Provision. Students learn how to create supportive learning environments and consider issues of equality and access. In Year 3, students complete a Dissertation and take Advancing Early Years Practice and Early Years Education and Care: Critical Perspectives, deepening expertise and preparing for professional roles. They can also choose an optional module such as Inclusions and Exclusions in the Modern World, Education In/With/For Nature, or Education and Diversity for a Changing World, allowing personal specialisation. The program supports critical reflection, leadership and research skills essential for careers in early childhood education and care.
