COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Criminology with Psychology program offers a structured and interdisciplinary approach to exploring crime and criminal behaviour through both sociological and psychological lenses. In Year 1, students gain foundational knowledge through modules such as Introduction to Criminology, Being a Criminologist, Police and Police Work, Crime, Media and Culture, Victimology, Law, Government and Policy, and Introduction to Psychology, which together introduce key theories, justice systems, media influence, victim experiences, and basic psychological concepts. Year 2 deepens understanding with Criminological Theory, Criminological Research, Penology, Social Psychology, and Personality and Individual Differences, examining how social interaction, personality traits, and punishment systems relate to criminal behaviour. Students also choose from optional modules such as Comparative Criminal Justice, Violent Crime, Digital Crime and Investigation, Young People, Deviance and Crime, and Crime Mapping, allowing them to tailor learning toward specific interests. In Year 3, students complete an Extended Independent Study and further specialise through options like Miscarriages of Justice, Organised Crime, Politics of Crime, Understanding Political Violence, Criminological Psychology, Eyewitness Psychology, Behaviour Change, Psychology in the Workplace, Advanced Social Psychology, Modern Slavery, and Desistance from Crime. The program builds strong analytical, research, and communication skills, preparing graduates for careers in criminal justice, policing, rehabilitation, youth work, mental health services, research, community support, or specialist postgraduate study.
