COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Policing program is structured around a combination of compulsory modules and specialist pathway options, allowing students to tailor their studies to their professional interests. All students complete the core modules, which include Evidence Based Approaches to Policing, designed to develop the ability to apply research and data to practice; Contemporary Policing: Legitimacy and Performance, which examines accountability, trust, and effectiveness in modern policing; Research Methods, providing essential skills for academic and applied inquiry; and the Dissertation, where students undertake an independent project on a policing-related issue of their choice. Alongside these compulsory elements, students select one specialist pathway that aligns with their career goals. The MSc Policing general pathway offers modules in Criminal Investigations, Police Leadership and Management, and Criminal and Forensic Psychology, providing a broad exploration of the field. The International Policing pathway focuses on global policing practices and challenges, while the Investigating Serious Crime pathway emphasizes advanced investigative skills. The Leadership and Management pathway builds expertise in strategic leadership within policing contexts. Collectively, the program develops critical thinking, strategic awareness, and specialist skills, preparing graduates to address contemporary and emerging challenges in policing at local, national, and international levels.
