COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc Health Psychology course is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of the psychological factors that influence health, illness, and wellbeing, preparing them for careers in research, healthcare, and applied health psychology. The compulsory modules equip students with both theoretical knowledge and practical skills essential for professional practice. Biopsychosocial Perspectives in Health Psychology introduces the integrated model of biological, psychological, and social factors that impact health, while Practice and Professional Considerations in Health Psychology explores the ethical, legal, and professional standards required for practice. Data Analysis and Applications, along with Applied Psychological Research, develop students’ research skills, including statistical analysis, experimental design, and interpretation of findings, ensuring graduates can critically evaluate and apply evidence-based approaches. Individual Differences in the Psychology of Health and Illness focuses on understanding how personal, social, and psychological factors affect health behaviours and responses to illness, while Chronic Disorder and Health Psychology Interventions examines strategies for managing long-term conditions and promoting positive health outcomes. The Independent Research Project allows students to design and conduct a substantial research study, integrating theoretical knowledge and practical skills to address real-world health psychology challenges. Collectively, these modules provide a robust foundation for developing expertise in health psychology, preparing graduates to make a meaningful contribution to promoting health, preventing illness, and enhancing wellbeing across diverse populations.
