COURSE CURRICULUM

The Psychology MRes is structured around three compulsory modules that provide a strong foundation in advanced research practice. The MRes Independent Project is the core of the program, giving students the opportunity to design, conduct, and report an original piece of research under the supervision of an experienced academic. This project allows students to apply the skills and knowledge gained throughout the course to a real-world issue, producing work that is rigorous, innovative, and potentially impactful. Methods and Measurement in the Social Sciences develops expertise in designing studies, selecting appropriate methodologies, and applying measurement techniques to ensure validity and reliability in psychological research. This module also emphasizes critical evaluation of different approaches and prepares students to engage with complex research questions. Data Analysis, Replication, and Dissemination provides training in advanced quantitative and qualitative data handling, while also promoting open-science practices such as replication studies and transparent reporting. Students learn how to interpret findings responsibly and effectively communicate their results to both academic and wider audiences. Together, these modules ensure graduates leave with a comprehensive skill set in research design, analysis, and communication, positioning them strongly for doctoral study or research-oriented careers in psychology and related fields.
