COURSE CURRICULUM

The MRes in Cancer Pharmacology and Therapeutics is designed to provide students with an in-depth understanding of cancer biology and the practical skills needed for advanced research in oncology. The program’s compulsory modules ensure that students develop both theoretical knowledge and hands-on experience. Critical Appraisal of a Current Topic in Oncology teaches students to evaluate contemporary research critically, developing the ability to assess experimental design, interpret data, and understand the implications of findings within the broader scientific context. The Hallmarks of Cancer module provides a comprehensive overview of the biological mechanisms underlying cancer development, progression, and therapeutic intervention, equipping students with the foundational knowledge necessary to understand complex oncological processes. Central to the program is the Research Project, a six-month laboratory-based investigation that allows students to apply their learning in a practical setting, developing technical skills in experimental design, data collection, and analysis. This project provides the opportunity to engage with cutting-edge cancer research, fostering critical thinking, problem-solving, and independent scientific inquiry. Together, these modules prepare graduates to contribute to cancer research, work effectively in pharmaceutical or biomedical environments, and pursue further academic study such as a PhD.
