COURSE CURRICULUM

The MMus Performance course is built around a set of compulsory modules designed to strengthen both practical performance and academic understanding, while offering the chance to specialize through an optional module. Core modules include Research Informed Practice, which integrates performance with scholarly study, and Ensemble and Musical Direction Skills, where students gain experience in leading and collaborating within group performance settings. Critical Perspectives encourages deeper reflection on music and performance within wider cultural and theoretical contexts, while Research Methods equips students with the tools needed for academic inquiry and preparation for advanced projects. The Performance Portfolio allows students to showcase their artistic development through a collection of individual and ensemble performances, highlighting technical ability and interpretative skills. The program culminates in the Masters Project, where students undertake an independent research or practice-based project that consolidates their learning and aligns with their personal career goals. Alongside these compulsory modules, students may select one optional module—Studio Recording, Music Pedagogy, or Songwriting—allowing them to focus on specific interests and expand their expertise in areas that support professional ambitions. Together, these modules provide a comprehensive training that blends artistry, scholarship, and professional skills, preparing graduates for diverse careers in the music industry.
