COURSE CURRICULUM

The MMus in Composition is structured to provide students with a comprehensive education in both the creative and technical aspects of music composition. The compulsory modules ensure that students develop a strong foundation in practical, professional, and research-based skills. Practical Composition 1 and 2 focus on developing original compositional ideas, encouraging students to explore a range of styles, techniques, and expressive possibilities while refining their personal artistic voice. Audio and MIDI Production provides essential technical training in digital music creation, enabling students to manipulate and produce high-quality recordings and compositions. Music Score Production teaches the skills required to prepare professional-quality scores suitable for performance and publication. Professional Orchestration and Arrangement equips students with the ability to adapt and arrange music for different ensembles, enhancing both their compositional and practical performance skills. Research Methods introduces students to academic inquiry, critical analysis, and reflective practices, supporting informed creative decisions and enabling engagement with contemporary music scholarship. The Masters Project serves as a capstone, allowing students to integrate their compositional, technical, and research skills into a substantial, independent project that reflects their personal artistic vision. Collectively, these modules provide a balanced education, preparing graduates for careers as composers, performers, producers, or researchers within the evolving music industry.
