COURSE CURRICULUM

The MA in Digital Media, Culture and Economy provides a comprehensive framework for understanding the cultural, economic, and technological changes shaping contemporary digital life. Students undertake a set of compulsory modules that lay the foundation for critical analysis and research skills. Labour in an Age of Platform Capitalism examines the impact of digital platforms on work, labour practices, and economic structures, highlighting the social and political implications of technological innovation. Political Economy and Emerging Technologies explores the interplay between economic systems and new technologies, fostering an understanding of how digital developments influence markets, policy, and society. Researching the Digital equips students with methodological tools for investigating digital phenomena, preparing them to conduct rigorous, evidence-based analysis. The Research Dissertation allows students to apply these skills to an independent, in-depth project, integrating theoretical knowledge with practical investigation and contributing new insights to the field. In addition to the core modules, students select two optional modules to tailor their learning to their interests, such as Production and Distribution of Digital Media and Culture, which examines the processes and systems involved in creating and disseminating digital content, The Cultural Politics of Innovation, Design in the Digital Economy, and Digital Spaces: From Home to Hemisphere, each offering specialised perspectives on contemporary digital environments. This combination of compulsory and optional modules ensures graduates develop both broad and specialised expertise, preparing them for careers in digital strategy, cultural consultancy, technology policy, media industries, and research-focused roles.
