COURSE CURRICULUM

The Acting and Theatre Making MA course is structured to provide students with an in-depth exploration of both performance and theatre practice, combining practical, creative, and research-based learning. In the first module, Acting: Exploring Text and Character, students develop their skills in interpreting scripts, exploring character motivations, and understanding dramatic structure. Embodied Performance focuses on the physicality of performance, encouraging students to use movement, space, and gesture to convey meaning effectively. Performing Voice and Text allows students to refine vocal techniques and develop clarity, expression, and projection for live performance. Facilitating Practice trains students in leading rehearsals, conducting workshops, and supporting collaborative creative processes, equipping them with the skills needed to guide and manage performance projects. Curating Performance emphasizes planning and producing events, enabling students to design, organise, and present theatrical works to public audiences. Research in Theatre introduces methodologies for investigating theatre practices, fostering critical thinking, and supporting informed artistic choices. Finally, the Independent Theatre Project allows students to integrate their learning by creating and producing a substantial performance or theatre project, demonstrating their creative, technical, and organisational abilities. By combining these modules, the course develops students into versatile, reflective, and professional theatre practitioners, prepared to build careers in performance, production, research, and wider creative industries.
