COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc Mathematics and Statistics degree provides a comprehensive foundation in mathematical theory, statistical analysis, and computational applications. In the first year, students focus on core concepts including linear algebra, discrete mathematics, probability and statistics, calculus, and introductory programming, alongside using computers to explore mathematical and statistical problems. The second year builds on this foundation with more advanced topics such as real and complex analysis, further calculus, advanced engineering mathematics, numerical methods, financial mathematics, and statistical modelling, preparing students to apply quantitative reasoning to practical and theoretical problems. In the final year, the course emphasizes higher-level applications and problem-solving through modules on ordinary and partial differential equations, dynamical systems, stochastic processes, operational research and optimisation, and an independent project, allowing students to explore a specialized area in depth. Across all three years, the program combines rigorous theoretical study with practical computational and analytical skills, equipping graduates to tackle complex challenges in science, engineering, finance, and industry. The curriculum develops critical thinking, numeracy, and problem-solving capabilities, ensuring that students leave with the technical expertise and confidence needed for careers in a wide range of sectors or for pursuing further postgraduate study in mathematics, statistics, or related disciplines.
