COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Mathematics and Computing degree is designed to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of mathematics, statistics, and computing, preparing them for careers in data-driven and technology-focused industries. In the first year, students build a strong foundation through modules such as discrete mathematics, linear algebra, programming, calculus, probability and statistics, and algorithms and data types, ensuring a solid grounding in both theoretical and practical concepts. The second year expands on these fundamentals with advanced modules including calculus 2, artificial intelligence, theory of computation, numerical methods, statistical modelling, and number and group theory, allowing students to develop specialized skills and a deeper understanding of computational and mathematical problem-solving. In the final year, students have the opportunity to tailor their learning by selecting four optional modules from a range of topics such as ordinary and partial differential equations, dynamical systems, operational research and optimization, stochastic processes, machine learning, applied software engineering, databases and analytics, and enterprise security management, alongside a compulsory project. This combination of core knowledge, specialized options, and hands-on project work equips graduates with the analytical, programming, and problem-solving skills required to address complex challenges in computing, engineering, finance, research, and other data-intensive fields, while also providing a strong foundation for postgraduate study.
