COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Forensic Science degree provides students with a thorough grounding in the scientific principles and practical skills required to pursue a career in forensic investigation. In the first year, students build a strong foundation through modules covering the basics of forensic science investigation, the criminal justice system, human biology, chemistry, pharmacology, and the structure and function of the human body. This knowledge is developed further in the second year, where students study forensic photography, the investigation of crime, molecular biology, forensic pharmacology, analytical methods, and research techniques, allowing them to link scientific theory to real-world applications. In the final year, students consolidate their learning through advanced modules such as forensic assessment and examination techniques, case assessment and interpretation, drugs of abuse, and career development in forensic science, alongside a project dissertation that demonstrates their ability to conduct independent research. The course emphasizes practical, hands-on learning, giving students experience in realistic investigative scenarios and preparing them for professional roles in crime scene analysis, laboratory investigation, and expert testimony. Graduates leave with a combination of technical competence, analytical skills, and professional experience, ready to enter the workforce or pursue further specialization in forensic science and related fields.
