COURSE CURRICULUM

The Biomedical Science degree offers a comprehensive exploration of biological and medical sciences, providing students with the knowledge and skills required to understand human health and disease. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in key subjects such as cell and microbiology, biochemistry, human anatomy and physiology, genetics, and essential laboratory skills. This grounding enables them to develop the technical and analytical abilities necessary for biomedical research. In the second year, the curriculum advances to applied topics including bioinformatics and systems biology, pharmacology, clinical biochemistry, haematology and transfusion science, infection and immunity, alongside research, development, and leadership skills. This combination of scientific knowledge and professional development prepares students to address complex clinical and laboratory challenges. In the third year, students undertake a substantial final-year research project while deepening their expertise in specialized areas such as cellular pathology, clinical immunology, clinical microbiology and infection control, and clinical genetics and cytogenomics. Throughout the course, students gain hands-on experience with laboratory techniques, data analysis, and clinical investigations, ensuring they are equipped for professional roles in biomedical science. Graduates are prepared for careers in diagnostic services, research, and healthcare innovation, and the degree also provides a pathway to further study or graduate-entry medicine.
