COURSE CURRICULUM

The Biomedical Informatics degree provides a comprehensive foundation in modern biosciences and computational systems, focusing on the application of informatics in healthcare. In the first year, students develop essential knowledge through compulsory modules such as Cell and Microbiology, Essential Skills for Bioscientists, Fundamentals of Chemistry, Fundamentals of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Genetics and Disease, and Human Anatomy and Physiology. These modules build a strong understanding of biological processes, laboratory techniques, and foundational scientific principles. In the second year, the curriculum expands into applied and advanced areas with modules including Bioinformatics and Systems Biology, Fundamentals of Pharmacology, Research, Development and Leadership, Infection and Immunity, Genetics and Evolution, and Proteins and Enzymes. Students gain practical experience in data analysis, computational biology, and research methodology, preparing them for real-world healthcare applications. In the final year, students focus on specialised topics and independent research through modules such as a Final Year Research Project, Data Science in Health and Well-being, Biomedical Signal Processing, Medical Image Analysis, and Digital and Mobile Health. These modules emphasise advanced data analytics, digital healthcare solutions, and the use of modern technology to address clinical challenges.
