COURSE CURRICULUM

The BSc (Hons) Bio-Sciences degree provides a thorough grounding in the life sciences, combining theoretical knowledge with practical skills to prepare students for a wide range of scientific careers. In the first year, students focus on foundational modules such as Cell and Microbiology, Essential Skills for Bioscientists, Fundamentals of Chemistry, Fundamentals of Biochemistry and Molecular Biology, Genetics and Disease, and Human Anatomy and Physiology, building a strong scientific base. The second year introduces more advanced topics, including Proteins and Enzymes, Research, Development and Leadership, and a variety of optional modules such as Bioinformatics and Systems Biology, Clinical Biochemistry, Infection and Immunity, Neuroscience, and Wildlife Conservation, allowing students to tailor their learning to specific interests. In the final year, students undertake a Final Year Research Project, consolidating research skills and independent study capabilities, alongside optional modules covering specialized areas such as Clinical Immunology, Drug Discovery, Nanobiology, Genomics, Pathophysiology, Animal Behaviour, Ecological Consultancy, and Medical Image Analysis. The curriculum integrates practical laboratory experience, data analysis, and research methodologies, ensuring students develop problem-solving, analytical, and technical skills. By combining core knowledge with optional specialization and hands-on projects, graduates are well-prepared for careers in healthcare, biotechnology, pharmaceuticals, environmental consultancy, research, and further postgraduate study in the life sciences and related fields.
