The BMus (Hons) Composition (Film, Gaming, Media) degree offers a structured and comprehensive progression through the essential skills and knowledge required for a career in contemporary composition. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in music creation and technology, studying modules such as Audio and MIDI Production, Arranging for Strings and Winds and Brass, Designing Music, Moving Music, and Recording, Sampling and AI, which develop technical proficiency and creative versatility. In the second year, the focus shifts to applied composition and media integration, with modules including Composing for Film and Visual Media, Digital Orchestration, Orchestrating, Production Project 1: Creating a Library Music Album, Researching Styles and Ideas, and Sound Synthesis and Post-Production, allowing students to combine theoretical knowledge with practical projects. The final year emphasizes professional development and advanced creative output through modules such as Promoting Your Career, Arranging for the Real World, Composition as Research, Music and Sound for Video Games, and Production Project 2: Creating a Concept Album, enabling students to refine their personal style and prepare for industry engagement.
