COURSE CURRICULUM

The three-year BA (Hons) Photography program is designed to develop students’ technical skills, creative vision, and professional understanding of photography. In the first year, students build a strong foundation through modules such as introduction to photography focusing on identity and place, photographic histories, experimental approaches to image production, exhibiting photographs, and documentary studies. These modules combine practical skills with contextual and historical understanding, helping students develop their visual language and conceptual thinking. The second year expands on these skills with a focus on theory, narrative, and industry application, including modules such as technologies of seeing, photography theory, narrative photography, the photographic object, photography and society, and industry experience. This stage encourages students to explore different photographic approaches while gaining practical exposure to professional environments. In the final year, the emphasis shifts to professional practice and independent creative development. Students undertake modules such as the published photograph, professional photographic practice, critical essay, image and text, and a photography major project, allowing them to consolidate their learning into a cohesive body of work. Throughout the program, students refine both technical proficiency and artistic expression, producing professional portfolios and critical analyses. Graduates leave the course equipped with the creative, theoretical, and professional skills needed to pursue careers in commercial, editorial, documentary, or fine art photography.
