COURSE CURRICULUM

The Media and Communications degree provides students with a comprehensive understanding of media theory and practical skills, preparing them for a variety of roles in the creative industries. In the first year, students build a solid foundation through compulsory modules covering media theories and debates, video production, video documentary production, live radio production, podcasting, and media ethics. These modules equip students with essential technical skills and critical knowledge needed for effective media creation and analysis. In the second year, students continue to develop their expertise and choose a specialised pathway in either Media Production or Media Studies, allowing them to tailor their learning to specific career goals. Core modules in Year 2 include industry experience and integrated marketing campaigns, alongside optional modules such as research, data and insight, and visual media cultures, ensuring a blend of practical and analytical skills. The third year builds on the chosen pathway, offering advanced modules that deepen students’ understanding of media practices or theoretical perspectives while providing opportunities for independent projects and professional development. This structure allows graduates to combine creativity, technical proficiency, and critical thinking, making them highly adaptable and prepared for a wide range of roles in media production, analysis, communication, and digital industries.
