COURSE CURRICULUM

The BA (Hons) Graphic Design degree at the University of West London is structured to provide students with a comprehensive understanding of design principles while fostering creativity and innovation. In the first year, students build a strong foundation in visual communication through modules such as Visual Languages, Digital Foundations, Typography, Ideas and Process, and Design Contexts. These modules introduce essential design techniques and theoretical knowledge, allowing students to develop a versatile skill set. In the second year, the focus shifts toward exploring the interaction between word and image, critical research, narrative structures, motion, and designing for innovation and interaction. This stage encourages experimentation, deeper conceptual thinking, and the development of an individual design practice. The final year is centered around professional preparation, with students completing a Major Project, engaging in Experimental Communications, and refining their ability to Present and Portfolio their work. The Professional Design Practice and Positioning module ensures that students understand the practical and strategic aspects of working in the design industry. Throughout the course, students gain the knowledge, technical skills, and creative confidence to produce innovative, professional-quality work, preparing them for careers in visual communication, branding, digital media, and other creative sectors, while positioning them to meet the demands of a competitive and evolving design landscape.
