COURSE CURRICULUM

This applied arts degree provides students with a comprehensive foundation in contemporary performance practices, blending creative exploration with practical, industry-focused learning. In the first year, students engage with modules that introduce theatre histories, improvisation, creative storytelling, and immersive performance, alongside directed projects that encourage experimentation and the development of an individual artistic voice. The second year builds on these foundations, emphasizing community engagement and collaborative practice through modules such as socialising performance, working with communities, performing identities, staging stories, and writing for performance. Students gain hands-on experience in outreach projects, enhancing their ability to apply creative skills in real-world contexts and broaden their understanding of diverse audiences. The final year focuses on professional readiness and independent practice. Students undertake professional practice placements, autonomous projects, and enterprise-focused modules including LLCM accreditation, providing opportunities to develop leadership, management, and teaching skills within the performing arts. The company project allows students to produce and perform original works, while modules on acting and directing for performance ensure a well-rounded skill set. By the end of the course, graduates will have honed their creative, technical, and professional abilities, built a strong portfolio, and gained the experience necessary to pursue careers as performers, directors, facilitators, or creative entrepreneurs within the arts industry.
