COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Science and Technology Policy at the University of Sussex provides students with a comprehensive understanding of how science and technology intersect with policy and innovation. Core modules offer a solid grounding in the principles of policy making, analysis, and the dynamics of science, technology, and innovation in markets and firms. In the autumn term, students study modules such as Democratizing Science and Technology, Metascience and Assessment Skills, Policy Making and Policy Analysis, and Science, Technology and Innovations: Markets, Firms and Policies, which provide the foundation for understanding policy frameworks and assessment techniques. The spring term builds on this foundation with modules including Innovation for Sustainability and Perspectives, Methods and Skills for Science, Technology and Innovation Studies, enhancing students’ ability to evaluate and apply policies that promote sustainable and responsible innovation. The summer term focuses on the dissertation, allowing students to conduct independent research or combine their study with an internship for practical experience. Optional modules allow students to tailor their learning to specific interests, such as artificial intelligence, industrial and innovation policy, quantitative research methods, project and policy evaluation, and business analysis. This program equips graduates with the knowledge, analytical skills, and practical experience required to contribute to policy development, innovation management, and strategic decision-making in governmental, international, and industrial contexts.
