COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Quantum Technology at Sussex provides students with a comprehensive grounding in both the theoretical and practical aspects of quantum physics, preparing them to contribute to cutting-edge developments in this rapidly evolving field. The program combines core modules, including Quantum Optics and Quantum Information, Practical Quantum Technologies, and a year-long MSc Project, with a wide range of optional modules, allowing students to tailor their studies to their specific interests. Through the autumn term, students engage with subjects such as Atom Light Interactions, Quantum Computing, Quantum Field Theory, Data Analysis Techniques, and Programming through Python, building the foundational knowledge and technical skills needed for advanced quantum research. In the spring term, the focus shifts to applied quantum technologies, including Electrons, Cold Atoms and Quantum Circuits, Lasers and Photonics, Introduction to Nano-materials and Nano-characterisation, Monte Carlo Simulations, and Semiconductors and Nanomaterial Devices, providing hands-on experience with the tools and techniques driving modern quantum innovations. By integrating research-led teaching with practical experimentation, students develop a deep understanding of quantum phenomena, from fundamental principles to emerging applications, and gain the expertise necessary for careers in research, industry, and technology development in quantum science. The program emphasizes problem-solving, innovation, and the translation of theoretical knowledge into practical quantum technologies.
