COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Neuroscience at Sussex offers a comprehensive program combining core modules, optional study, and a substantial research project to prepare students for careers in neuroscience or further doctoral study. Core modules provide a strong foundation in both theoretical and practical aspects of modern neuroscience. In the autumn term, students study Advanced Techniques in Neuroscience, exploring experimental methods and techniques used in contemporary research. Additional autumn modules, such as Advanced Methods in Molecular Research, Algorithmic Approaches to Mathematics, Foundations of Neuroscience 1, Imaging in Brain Diseases, and Skills for Research Bioscientists, allow students to develop specialised skills and knowledge across molecular, cognitive, and systems neuroscience. In the spring term, Current Topics in Neuroscience and the Life Sciences Masters Research Proposal guide students in identifying research questions and designing independent projects, complemented by optional modules including Brain Imaging Methods, Drugs, Brain and Behaviour, Machine Learning, Molecular Neuropharmacology, Neurobiology of Brain Disorders, and The Brain Across the Life Span. The program culminates with the Life Sciences Master of Science Research Project in the spring and summer terms, offering hands-on experience in a faculty-led research group. Through this combination of rigorous academic training, specialised options, and practical research, students gain advanced technical skills, analytical expertise, and transferable competencies, preparing them for careers in neuroscience, biotechnology, research, or further study.
