COURSE CURRICULUM

The MSc in Energy and Climate Policy at Sussex combines core modules and optional courses to provide students with the skills and knowledge needed to shape sustainable energy systems and address climate change. Core modules give all students a strong foundation, beginning with autumn teaching that covers Challenges in Energy and Climate Policy, Perspectives on Energy and Climate Policy, Policy Making and Policy Analysis, and Science, Technology and Innovations: Markets, Firms and Policies. These modules equip students with a deep understanding of energy and climate challenges, policy development, and the interplay between technology, markets, and innovation. In the spring term, students study Perspectives, Methods and Skills for Science, Technology and Innovation Studies, further developing analytical, research, and policy evaluation skills. The summer term is focused on the Dissertation in Energy and Climate Policy, allowing students to undertake independent research on topics of practical and academic relevance. Optional modules allow students to tailor their studies to their interests and include courses such as Artificial Intelligence & Global Digital Policies, Energy and Development, Energy Policy and Sustainability, Industrial and Innovation Policy, Innovation for Sustainability, Introduction to Quantitative Research, Project and Policy Evaluation, and Quantitative Methods for Science, Technology and Innovation Studies. This combination of theoretical, practical, and research-led learning equips graduates for careers in government, international organisations, NGOs, and the private sector, or for further academic research, preparing them to influence energy and climate policy globally.
